Avondale Hosts A Train Show

Get on the right track at the Avondale Education Foundation “A” Train Show

The largest model train show in the state comes to Avondale High School on January 15 for the 13 straight year. The “A” Train Show is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Avondale Education Foundation (AEF) which funds educational enrichment activities in and out of the classroom for Avondale students in Kindergarten through post-high school. Featuring almost 400 vendor tables, working train exhibits, a special room of crafts for little engineers, a train race, a full length motion picture and more, the show draws thousands of train enthusiasts from around the State.

“It’s a great day of family fun,” said Frank Lams, Avondale School District Assistant Superintendent for Financial Services and event organizer. “The admission is $4 per person and children under 12 are free. All of the activities, including the movie, Thomas and Friends – the Great Train Race, are free with admission,” Lams added. “The A Train Show is one of the best family entertainment values in town.”

Avondale School District Superintendent, Dr. James Schwarz, who is on the AEF Board of Directors sees the event as a positive reflection of the spirit of the District overall. “The Train Show represents the best of our staff, students and parent volunteers,” he said. “It’s a tremendous undertaking and requires a lot of work from around our school community. It’s great to see everyone pitching in and validates our commitment to each other and to One Avondale,” he added.

Schwarz also praised the AEF for their funding support of “many initiatives and activities in our classrooms that enrich our students’ school experience and learning.” He added that “without the commitment of the Foundation members, many opportunities outside of the District’s budget constraints would not be funded.”
