Pistons Airplane and Hoops Truck at Airport Open House

Detroit Pistons fans will have a unique opportunity to see the team’s airplane, Roundball One, at the Oakland County International Airport (OCIA) Open House and Air Show Sunday. In addition, the Pistons Hoops Truck will be on site where fans can win a Detroit Pistons Academy jersey if they can beat the shot clock.

“Thank you to the Detroit Pistons for their generosity and being a great community partner,” Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. “Their participation in our open house will create a buzz at our family-friendly event.”

Roundball One, an MD-83 jet, calls OCIA home. It flies out of Pentastar Aviation. Joining Roundball One on the ramp will be 50 additional aircraft individuals can explore, including World War II, Vietnam and Cold War-era airplanes.

General admission is free to the open house, which runs from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. A parachute act and three stunt pilots will perform an air show from 2:00 to  3:00 p.m. The OCIA Open House and Airshow committee continues its annual tradition of hosting a pancake breakfast from 8:00 until 11:00 a.m. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Plus, there will be helicopter rides for $35 and airplane rides for $25.

There is fun for the entire family, including a kids’ play area equipped with bounce houses. Bill Crell, “The NASA Guy,” will be on site to show off his latest experiments and demonstrations. Plus, there will be a health and safety fair from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., including the Michigan Child ID Program, which informs families about abduction prevention and provides fingerprinting for children.
