Paint Creek Center for the Arts is pleased to showcase the works of Tom Pyrzewski and Brian Nelson. Pyrzewski’s combine fabric, paint and found materials to create visceral, biomorphic monsters. Nelson’s interest in genetics and pharmacology inspire his creations craft emotionally weighted sculptures of stainless steel and various other materials. The First Floor Gallery hosts the photographs of Robert Cleveland.

She’ll also include a wide range of the state’s most interesting curiosities, from a place you can kiss a moose for good luck to a baffling country road that pulls your car backwards uphill. Colleen Burcar has been a radio and TV personality in the Detroit area for many years, including two decades with Dick Purtan.She was a columnist for the Detroit News, and has authored numerous books on the state of Michigan, including Michigan Curiosities and her latest, It Happened in Michigan.When she’s not writing, she voices commercials and works as a media consultant. Formed in 2009, The Oakland Jazz Quartet is Oakland University’s jazz ensemble-in-residence, and is a group dedicated to high standards of jazz performance and education. Comprised of the jazz faculty at Oakland University’s Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance, the OJQ performs a versatile array of music including traditional jazz, African drum music, and modern classical music. The group’s members are Miles Brown, bass, Sean Dobbins, drums, Tad Weed, piano, and Mark Stone, percussion. The Oakland Jazz Quartet has performed in schools and jazz venues around Metro Detroit, and gives concerts featuring world-class musicians such as Regina Carter, Vincent Chandler, Kim Nazarian, Jay Ashby, and John Stowell. The OJQ is also on a mission to bring jazz to the community, and is available to outreach programs and clinics in schools and community colleges. Mysteries of Ancient Egypt

Then on to the Pyramids, Luxor, and the great temple of Karnak. You’ll visit the Valley of the Kings and descend into the tombs of the nobles who served the grand Pharaohs. Henderson’s Light

Join us for an evening with Jack Torry, author of Henderson’s Light, a story of an all-American tragedy. On a chilly January evening in 1965 in Birmingham, Michigan, a Buick Skylark with five teenagers was struck head-on by a Ford Galaxy driven by a young man who had been drinking. Three of those teenagers and the driver of the Ford were killed. Aftereffects of the crash are still reverberating among the survivors who were left to deal with the realities of a terrible tragedy.  One more episode in the continuing American story of drunk driving and its consequences. Jack Torry, a Washington, D.C.-based reporter for the Columbus Dispatch, never knew the victims or survivors, but as a 13-year-old living in Birmingham, he was haunted by the tragic crash.
