The Avondale Theatre Company (ATC) announced recently that they are the only Michigan school chosen by The American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF) to participate at the 2016 Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Fringe is the largest international arts festival on the planet, and runs annually through the month of August. Avondale will build a show and perform it stateside before breaking it down and taking it ‘across the pond’ for a two-week run next summer.

“Being selected by the AHSTF to represent Michigan is not only exciting but a huge honor,” grins Mr. Edmond Guay, Avondale theatre teacher and director. “But it’s also just the start of a 16-month project that will involve nearly every aspect of our season next year. The honor is elevated even more when it’s the third time since 1996 that we’ve been tapped, making us only the third public school in the country to have been selected three times. We haven’t chosen a show yet because we want to wait until the commitments from the students are finalized, but we’re looking at a children’s show that celebrates American story telling.”
