DTE to Send a Financial Infrastructure Jolt to the Rochester Area

Commissioner Adam Kochenderfer Announces DTE Will Invest $1.4M in Rochester Area’s Electricity Infrastructure

Oakland County Commissioner Adam Kochenderfer recently announced that DTE Energy Company (DTE) has committed to invest over $1.4M in the Rochester area’s electricity distribution network over the course of 8-12 months.

The investment consists of several major projects intended to lower the number of power outages experienced by residents and strengthen the resiliency of the system. It includes the complete rebuilding of miles of distribution lines between Tienken and University Roads beginning in early 2018. These new lines are designed to withstand the heavy tree conditions of the community.

Another project was recently completed and includes the replacement of underground residential distribution lines in the area south of Tienken Road and east of Livernois Road.

The announcement comes after Commissioner Kochenderfer witnessed multiple power interruptions in the Rochester community and contacted DTE to find a solution. He formed a study group within the Oakland County Board of Commissioners to examine the reliability of the electricity infrastructure in the Rochester area and across the county.

The study group was chaired by Commissioner Kochenderfer and has spent the past year assessing the adequacy of energy infrastructure to meet residents’ needs.

Kochenderfer is hopeful that DTE’s significant investment in the Rochester community will lower the number of power outages in the area. “Portions of our community have suffered far more power outages than should be expected,” he said. “These improvements should bring some relief to residents once complete. I would like to thank DTE for recognizing the need to replace this aging infrastructure.”

He further remarked that the Board of Commissioners will continue to monitor the frequency of power outages in Oakland County and take additional actions as necessary.
