Library and Museum Combine Exercise and History on June 29

Rochester Hills Public Library Shares History of Two Prominent Trails

The Rochester Hills Public Library (RHPL) is offering community members the chance to explore the rich history just outside the library’s doors. To share the stories RHPL collaborated with the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm to take you on a bicycle ride through time.

On June 29, from 6:30-9:00 p.m. join us for a 3.7 mile ride, where you’ll meet ‘the original Forrest Gump’, see the former training site of possible Olympians, and learn how the Clinton River and Paint Creek trails came to be.

“The biking tour is something I look forward to all year because it showcases the amazing trail system our community offers, while talking about its unique history and … it sneaks in a little exercise. I want to invite everyone: families, teens and seniors to join us. If you love to bike and love history this is an event not to be missed,” says Community Relations Specialist Amanda Harrison Keighley.

“With almost 200 years of history it was difficult to choose which sites to talk about during our tour, but there are two sites I knew we had to include – the Canal and ski jump location and the Former Grand Trunk Western Railroad Depot Site,” says Pat McKay, Manager of the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm.

The program is open to library card holders; all ages are welcome, registration is required. To register please visit calendar.rhpl.org. Please meet in the library’s west entrance.
