Events include a chili cook-off on Saturday, fire trucks on Sunday and the Great lakes Timber Show on both days. All weekend there will be a craft show, the Dinosaur Hill Pioneer Playground, Civil War and 1812 encampments, car shows and pancake breakfasts.

Parade Monday

The cities of Rochester and Rochester Hills will sponsor the annual Greater Rochester Memorial Day Parade Monday.

The opening ceremony begins at 9:15 a.m. at Mt. Avon Cemetery in downtown Rochester. The parade begins at the cemetery at 10 a.m.  It will travel along First to Castell, then south to Harding, west to Livernois and south to Veterans Memorial Point.

This year, to honor those who have served and in remembrance of those who gave their lives, all veterans marching, walking, or riding in the parade have the opportunity to carry a memorial wreath that will be laid at Veterans Memorial Point. The wreath-laying ceremony will honor men and women who served in our country’s fight for freedom.

Rides are available for veterans. Any veteran who would like to take part in the wreath ceremony should call Terri Williams at 248-651-8137 or Ed Leafdale at 248-841-2566 for more information.

Drivers are reminded that there is a road closure due to bridge work adjacent to Veterans Pointe.  In addition, Harding will be closed for its entire length during the event. Events are expected to wrap up by noon.
